Bend points

The AIME dollar thresholds where the Social Security formula changes slope.

Each year SSA publishes two bend points ($1,286 and $7,749 for 2026 eligibility). Your PIA is 90% of AIME up to the first bend point, 32% between the bend points, and 15% above the second — which is why the formula replaces more income for lower earners.
