🎓 Understand this tool

What it is

A lookup tool for General Schedule pay: pick grade, step, and locality area and see the exact annual and hourly figures from the official OPM tables for the selected year.

How it works

Every figure is read directly from the published OPM pay-table data — the base table plus your locality area's table, which incorporates its locality percentage. Cells limited by the Executive Schedule Level IV cap show the capped value exactly as OPM publishes it. Nothing is recomputed or approximated.

Getting the most from it

  1. Choose your grade and step, then your locality area — use Rest of U.S. if your location is not in a listed area.
  2. Check the locality percentage shown against your SF-50 or offer letter.
  3. Open your locality's full table page to see all grades and steps side by side.
  4. Use the effective-year selector at rollover to compare the old and new tables.

Reading your result

The annual figure is base-plus-locality basic pay before deductions; the hourly figure is the OPM-published hourly rate. Special rates, law-enforcement tables, and pay caps for certain positions can differ from the standard table shown.

What it can't tell you

It cannot determine your correct grade or step, apply special salary rates, or reflect within-grade increase timing. Your HR office and OPM's official tables are the authority for your position.

Frequently asked questions

Each locality area has an OPM-set percentage added on top of the GS base table — the adjusted annual rate is the base rate increased by that percentage, as published in the official locality tables. This tool reads the published OPM tables directly rather than recomputing them.
